What we do

Com4Dev accompanies or pilots cooperation projects, particularly on an international scale. These projects involve various partner organizations. Com4Dev’s approach is to reinforce the meaning and scope of these projects. This approach is based on listening, co-construction and sharing, in order to build appropriate strategies, strengthen team capabilities and encourage collective learning. By contributing through its various professions, the association seeks to make initiatives more sustainable, more useful and better connected to their stakeholders.

Themes

Development issues cannot be tackled without taking into account the social, cultural and environmental realities that run through them. Com4Dev focuses on themes where social justice, sustainability and innovation intersect. Food systems, youth and human rights, cultural and creative industries: these are just some of the fields in which the association works alongside its partners to promote collective, inclusive and sustainable transformations.

Food systems and climate

Com4Dev works alongside its partners to help build bridges, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and make available tools and resources that enhance the impact of existing initiatives in the field of rural development and actions to combat climate change.

Youth and human rights

Com4Dev supports and promotes initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of young people, women and LGBTI+ people in the defense and exercise of human rights. We work alongside associations and institutions to encourage dialogue, the sharing of experiences and the dissemination of practices that strengthen their autonomy and capacity for action.
In Europe, we also help migrants strengthen their rights to access information by organizing digital workshops.

Creative industries

Com4Dev works alongside cultural players and their partners to strengthen the role of cultural industries in development dynamics. We help to promote and develop local initiatives, disseminate knowledge and foster cooperation between professionals, institutions and communities.

Our methodologies

To meet the complex challenges of cooperation, Com4Dev mobilizes approaches that emphasize participation, collective learning and social innovation. Communication for development, knowledge management, education for citizenship and international solidarity, change-oriented approaches: these are all methodological frameworks that enable us to design, manage and evaluate projects with their stakeholders, not for them. These methodologies form the common foundation that guides all our actions.

Communication for development (C4D) uses social engineering methods to integrate knowledge management into projects, enhance the value of local knowledge, promote concerted action, empower strategic project groups, capitalize on the latter and create communities of reflection and action around shared objectives.

Knowledge management is at the heart of international cooperation. It refers to all processes and practices aimed at identifying, capturing, organizing, sharing and effectively using the knowledge and experience accumulated in development projects and programs.

Education for Citizenship and International Solidarity (ECSI), also known as Global Citizenship Education (GCE), is an educational process designed to foster individual and collective contribution to a just, united and sustainable world.

Com4Dev favors change-oriented approaches to ensure that the results of its actions are fully visible and qualifiable for all stakeholders. These approaches combine a variety of methodologies that enable consultation on objectives and ownership of change processes by stakeholders, and reinforce the sustainability of results, towards more systemic impacts.

Our values

The members of the Com4Dev collective base all their actions on the shared values defined here.

In the sense of “working together”, international cooperation is not conceived as a top-down approach, but as the conjunction of forces and resources to solve problems and improve situations. Com4Dev favors collaborative and participatory approaches rooted in their contexts.
All our actions aim to empower the people we work with, the ideal of our intervention being to render ourselves useless. All our actions aim to give everyone, especially the working classes, access to knowledge and culture, and to develop their capacity for critical analysis and collective action. With this in mind, Com4Dev has created a training catalog, as autonomy often requires capacity building.
Com4Dev is independent of any political or religious group.
Com4Dev takes particular care to ensure that its actions contribute to a change in narratives that does not fuel stereotypes and, on the contrary, helps to combat discrimination and the rejection of others.
Similarly, all the organization’s actions are designed to promote inclusiveness in terms of gender, age, community and geographical origin.
All our actions are designed to do no harm to either people or the environment. The carbon footprint is a concern in every project carried out by the association, whether it involves international travel or the organization of events.
